Phil from Tallafornia was on First Dates Ireland last night and well, he hasn't changed a bit

The nation’s heart went out to his poor date.

REMEMBER 2011, WHEN this group of people briefly held the country in thrall to their wild antics and consumption of five eggs, per bloke, per day?

We haven’t seen or heard much from the Tallafornia gang since, but Phil Penny (third from left) popped up again on last night’s episode of First Dates Ireland.

He reckons he’s matured in the five years since the show ended:

I don’t want people to see me as this guy who was on a TV show. I’d like to go out and people to know me for me, as a genuinely nice bloke. I think I’ve matured a lot from three or four years ago, I am a lad who does like to go out and pull women, until I meet the woman of my dreams.

But let’s just say… you can take the lad out of Tallafornia, but you simply cannot take the Tallafornia out of the lad.

Phil was matched with Amy Maria, a half-Italian gal from Louth who was looking for a man with “confidence, not cockiness”.

Unfortunately for her, Phil was stomping all over that line, talking about her “nice hoop” and asking her if she’d had her lips and boobs done:

Did you get your boobs done?
What? No!
I don’t mean to be rude like but I was just looking down… Looks like you have a perky little set of t*ts there.

He then headed off to the “restroom” (he was very careful to be polite when asking where the jacks were) and Amy had to take a minute to compose herself.

Phil, in his cutaway interviews, seemed to think he was playing a blinder:

It’s not that I think she fancies me, I know she fancies me. She’s all about me, man… If you asked her in front of me now if she’d go on a second date, I’m pretty sure she’d say yes.

Amy, meanwhile, had a different view.

He asked me did I swallow while we were eating dessert.

Unsurprisingly, she didn’t go for a second date, and told him that he should probably stop ‘complimenting’ women by way of asking them if they had plastic surgery.

The viewers at home fairly ate him too, and are calling for Amy to be brought back for a fresh date:

Maybe give him another five years, when he’ll be 37 and hopefully will have reached the maturity of a 25-year-old. Then he can try again.
